Michel-Édouard Leclerc: Between the short term and the long term, a reflection on French retailing
For Michel-Edouard Leclerc, Chairman of E.Leclerc centers, strategic thinking cannot be limited to a short-term vision. He advocates an approach rooted in time, with long-term investment perspectives, while maintaining tactical agility in the face of contemporary challenges. Contrary to an often-repeated pessimistic view, Michel-Édouard Leclerc refuses to see the French economy as in deep crisis. With consumption fluctuating between -2% and -0.2%, he stresses that the situation remains much better than during the crises of the 1970s. For Michel-Édouard Leclerc, innovation lies in the ability to anticipate future needs while adjusting current formats. With a 45% share of the French drive-thru market, E.Leclerc has been able to take advantage of digital transformation, thanks in particular to substantial investments: 500 million euros a year in IT, logistics and the Internet.
